11/8-11/17

So this thankfulness thing has been a bit of a failure this time around... I'm not going to lie, 2015 has not been my year. But that is also reason to try and drum up ideas on what to be thankful for, so here goes...

11/8
I'm thankful for our home. I really do love it and we are slowly making it more and more our own. It is more work, but I do love being a homeowner.

11/9
I'm thankful for my job. I love it. I'm in the best place in my career I've ever been, and I feel so good about it. I've experienced enough "bad" that I know how fortunate I am to be able to say this.

11/10
I'm thankful for where Caleb and I are financially. We work hard and save well, but in all honesty, we are mostly lucky to have been born into families that are also financially stable and supportive of us. Our parents, grandparents, etc. all worked hard and saved, and were also fortunate, and that has been passed down to us. I am so grateful that that is one aspect that does not cause us stress, because it is a major stressor for most people, I think.

11/11
So it's cliché, but I honestly am thankful for veterans. I'm not one to post flashy Facebook posts on Veterans' Day or have a "Support Our Troops" sticker on my car, but I recognize and appreciate the sacrifice that so many have made for our country. Along with that, I think we as a country need to be better about supporting veterans when they return with healthcare and mental health needs. Not to get too political, but as Bernie Sanders said, "If you can't afford to take care of your veterans, then don't go to war."

11/12
I'm thankful that I graduated with my Master's this year. Honestly, it's the biggest/best thing to come out of this year, but it was also so fraught with anxiety and stress that it doesn't feel like a big accomplishment, just something terrible I had to survive. I hope that fades with time and I can recognize that what I accomplished is pretty amazing.

11/13
I'm thankful to have an extended group of friends to do fun things with. We went to the Iowa’s Premier Beer, Wine & Food Expo on Friday night, and while I over-imbibed and did not feel so well the next day, I love that we have many fun friends that like to do fun things like this.

11/14
I'm thankful for my father-in-law, who came up to our house on Saturday to help Caleb put in our new kitchen sink. He is so handy and helpful! I'm also grateful for my mother-in-law, who offered to help me stain our window trim, but since I was so sick from the night before, didn't get a chance to. But she is also a godsend for home projects.

11/15
I'm thankful for books and TV shows. Sounds silly, but I have really enjoyed reading more and watching some fun TV shows since being done with school. I've really missed reading for pleasure, and I like to be able to tune off the thoughts in my head and get lost in someone else's storyline for a while.

11/16
I'm thankful that my back is doing ok (for now). I've been going to the gym to do my PT exercises and light cardio, trying to be patient and slowly build up some strength and endurance to hopefully get close to where I used to be, when I was able to lift weights, run, do fun classes without fear. I hope I can see my body as "able" again someday, instead of something that I fight against and that causes me pain.

11/17
I'm thankful for my health insurance. I am so fortunate to have extremely good health insurance through my job, which alleviates a lot of stress when I need to go to the doctor. For many people, this is not their reality, and they have to make tough decisions based on availability and cost for their health care. I hope this improves in our country soon, but for now I am so grateful that this is one less worry for me.
