New town, new friends

I met my first Clear Lake friends! (I'll call them friends already even though I just met them last night. Desperate times.)

Last night Caleb and I broke out the new grill for the first time, and it all went off without a hitch. Three of his work friends came over, two with spouses. They're all pretty young and fun. Everyone brought their own meat to grill, and I put together some snacks. We made steak, chicken, hot dogs, brats, and hamburgers! We also tried our hand at grilled veggies for the first time - yellow squash and zucchini. It turned out delicious, even after Caleb dropped the veggie basket on the ground. Good thing I wrapped those puppies in foil.

After grilling, we went to one of Clear Lake's many parks and played volleyball. I sat and watched their league game (they're in the Power Hitters league - not for me), and after that game, the Kingland group played a fun game with the spouses. Lots of funny hits, kicks, dives.... just goofing around.

I can't wait to do more things with other people in Clear Lake. I'm already sick of Caleb. Just kidding. But it's nice to interact with other people after beign alone all day.

Working from home isn't so bad, but it is a little lonely. Playing my music helps (got my Femme Fatale mix going), but I do miss interacting with people. Although one of the spouses of Caleb's work friends is also working remotely in Clear Lake, and he is renting office space in the upstairs of Caleb's office building! It sounds sweet, but I don't know that we can afford it. Maybe down the road - it would definitely be less lonely, and I could eat lunch with Caleb and his coworkers. That might be a lot of Caleb time, though. :)

So things are good so far. I'll be back in C-town the next two weekends for weddings, so I shouldn't get too homesick. Although I do miss my roomies in Waukee.
