The Not-So-Bridezilla Chronicles, Part 1

So I've officially been engaged 1 week, and I'm already feeling kind of stressed. I realize this is only me freaking myself out, but there is just so freaking much to do!

So... it's list time again.
  • Location - This will initially be the most important thing, because it may determine the wedding date. I'm thinking one of two places: Ceremony by Summit Lake (by my house) with Reception in tents at Crestmoor Country Club, or Ceremony and Reception at 3 Mile Lodge. There's pros and cons to both, including if Summit Lake gets dredged next year, parents freaking out about people being near our house for the Ceremony, people driving home from 3 Mile, costs, etc.
  • Wedding Date - I first really wanted September, because it gave me over a year to plan and it would still be really nice out. But then I thought about football games, and friends going out of state to grad school, and I'm now thinking about the first two weekends in June. Although I do really hate how typical June is for a wedding...
  • Dress - This might not be so hard, but I'm also quite picky. I'm considering borrowing a dress from either my future sister-in-law, Linda, or my Aunt Brenda. Although Linda is smaller than me, and who knows how much they can "take out" that dress. I'm also considering looking at stores like the Black & White store in Jordan Creek, or even formal wear stores like Schaffer's or Stacey's. I don't want a traditional wedding dress, but I also might have luck with some simpler ones at David's, too. We'll see.
  • Reception Food - This is a conundrum because I kind of want something really unique, like jerk chicken or a fajita/taco bar, but I also want to make it as simple as possible. With possible colors of lime green and purple, I'm considering a tropical/Jamaican/Latin theme. So maybe shredded jerk chicken sandwiches with lots of fruit? I don't know...
  • Weight Loss - I figure I have until June (if that's when the date is) to get skinny. Need to eat right and exercise. I'm considering joining a Weight Watchers group in Mason City - they'd keep me accountable and I might make some friends.

I guess that's it for now. More to come, don't worry.

Have you considered Green Valley for the wedding ceremony? Isn't that where Mallory and Kevin Lents did theirs?

FYI Gwen and Diana do a great version of The Power of Two by the Indigo Girls - good wedding song.
