Keepin' On

Welp, running is going well so far. I have my *longest distance ever* to run on Saturday - 14 miles! From now on, each long run I do will be the *longest I've ever run*. I don't build it up too much in my head though - I did 12 miles last Saturday, so what's two more miles? And I break it up into pieces with water/refueling breaks, so it's not too bad. And I'm hoping the weather cooperates so it's cool and not too humid early Saturday morning.

Me after a 5:00 AM, 97% humidity, 5 mile run. Do not want that kind of humidity for Saturday!
I have been feeling what might be the beginning of shin splints, which makes me very nervous - I'm only halfway through my weeks of training, and not even close to halfway through the mileage I need to complete! I am doing my best to rest my legs on off days and icing my shins whenever I can. Fingers crossed for injury-free training!

My weekend, like usual, is pretty jam-packed! Lazy Friday (with Caleb gone at Nick's wedding rehearsal), then long run Saturday morning, Bailey's wedding ceremony Saturday afternoon, then drive 2.5 hours to Washington, IA for Nick's wedding reception. We'll stay the night there and maybe catch breakfast with friends before heading home. It will be a fun night! I just wish I could be there for ALL of each wedding, but oh well.

Then next weekend we head down to St. Louis with my coworker (and friend!) Elizabeth for the Zombie Run! I'm excited but I also have to work this into my training schedule, and stay injury free by running slowly and safely. I probably won't "survive" the run (zombies will get me), but it will still be fun! Then drinking and hanging out at the apocalypse after-party, then maybe a BBQ festival later that day. Fun fun.

I'm also getting super excited for ISU Tailgating! My parents and their friends always have awesome tailgates, and we always mix it up with other friends too. One thing I'm not so excited for fall to bring.... classes starting again. Although I only have one class this semester, thank Kukulkan.

Since I ALWAYS work on Saturdays, I already requested September 29th off so I can tailgate/go to the game! I'm so excited :) The only thing I'm not excited about actually having to deal with traffic/finding a place to park.

So when you say water/refueling breaks do you actually stop running for these breaks and for how long? How often do you stop and do the breaks? I want to go tailgating with you sometime! Not that I care much for college football. I like football in general though and I like to drink and I like your parents.
