Contracting Work in Des Moines

So, as some of you may know, I am now back in Des Moines doing some contracting work with my old job. I did not get the position I had hoped for in the earlier post, even after a really good 2nd interview. Alas, that job was not in the cards for me. But I did find another one I'm even more interested in - an Admin Assistant position at the local community college. I loved working in the academic world at Iowa State, so I'm really hoping for this one.

My work in Des Moines will probably last over a month, but luckily they are being really flexible with me so I can go back to Clear Lake for interviews or whatever, and not always have to spend full weeks here. But this project is a bear!

We have a client that supplies work for a whole division, who is quite demanding, and sometimes downright mean. The project needs some serious revamping in account management and setup on the back end, so I'm here to help the current account manager accomplish that and make things manageable again.

My first day wasn't so bad, as I was just learning and observing and documenting things. But today - wow! I got just a little taste of the stress of this project, and tomorrow will probably be worse! I'm glad I was able to dive in pretty quickly and I feel like I understand most of it, but it's going to take a lot of thinking, investigating, and working with the client (eek!) to figure out a way to streamline things and get them under control.

I'm thankful for the opportunity to come back for a while - I was getting kind of bored at home, and the extra money is always good too! But I'm also glad it's temporary. I have the feeling that I will be very ready to go back home when my part of this project is done.
