25 Things About Me

Everyone on Facebook is doing this, so I thought I'd practice here before I made my debut in the real world of Facebook.

1. I am absolutely terrified of ET. I have reoccurring nightmares of him killing my entire family, and I think he his creepy and gross. NOT loveable.

2. The only major surgery I've had is really strange. It was a bone spur removal from my right femur. Yes, I had an extra bone growing off my leg. Left a huge, sweet scar, too.

3. One of my favorite memories of my dad as a kid was when I would watch him working with tools in the garage, and the song "My Maria" by Brooks & Dunn would come on. He'd sing the "Mariiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiia" part at the top of his lungs. I thought he was so weird and funny. I laugh every time I hear that song now.

4. I am the only open liberal in my entire extended family. (I say open because I can't help but hope that there's another one out there, but they're just too scared to admit it right now.)

5. I'm also the only one with a tattoo, except for my Aunt Brenda. I'm also into women's studies, civil rights, etc. I'm practically a hippy to them.

6. I extremely dislike air blowing in my face. I hate fans, and only use them when I am dying of heat. I also dislike rolled down car windows most of the time.

7. I don't like my head to be touched. Only a few people can get away with it. I don't even really like my hair being played with or scalp massages.

8. I think my hatred of my head being touched contributes to my hatred of playing sports that involve flying objects. I can almost always count on being hit in the head with one, and then I get unreasonably angry and have to cool off for a while.

9. I'm planning on donating my eggs soon. It pays very well and I'm excited to use my healthy body to help those that can't conceive on their own.

10. I was close to donating my bone marrow to someone this fall. Although I would get no money for it, and it would hurt A LOT, I'm really disappointed I wasn't a match for them. I never feel like I make enough of an impact, and I really want to help someone in a big way.

11. I helped produce the Vagina Monologues last year, and was in the cast for all four years of college. I love it; it's such a passion of mine. Hearing the same pieces over and over can get a little monotonous sometimes (especially when you're directing!), but I am so passionate about what it means to women, what it does for women, and how eye-opening it can be for everyone. I will always be a Vagina Warrior.

12. I really want to know what it feels like to be pregnant, and to have a baby, but I don't want to deal with anything that comes after that, like screaming, annoying kid-stages, belly flab, etc.

13. I'm in love, and have been for the past four years or so, but sometimes I still can't believe it. It's changed me, in a great way.

14. I love Fiona Apple, and if she ever goes on tour again, I will get tickets to see her, no matter how far away it is. Tara has also pledged to go with me.

15. I'm pretty bad at remembering to call people back. I always mean to, but then I don't remember to until it's days later. If I say I'll call you back, and I don't set an alarm on my phone or something, you should probably just call me.

16. Summer 2008 was not kind to me. I was the victim of some really crappy luck, which kind of makes me lose faith in people: Windshield smashed in, purse stolen, iPod stolen, and side mirror knocked off my car. All by strangers.

17. I love peas. They are my all-time favorite vegetable.

18. I absolutely despise tuna. It makes me gag to smell it. I really hate it when someone makes tuna salad, because then it combines many things I hate: hard-boiled eggs, tuna, relish, and mayonaise. Barf.

19. My office is known for being a sauna. I shut my door, turn on my little heater, and when it gets too warm I'm too lazy to get up and open the door for some fresh air.

20. The thing I miss the most from high school is Colorguard and Winterguard. I loved the friendships, practicing, performing, leading, and finding something I was really good at, because sports were out of the picture. Although this still involved flying objects, and I did go to the emergency room with a broken nose from this.

21. Continuing with #20, the only black eyes I've ever had came from Guard. I received four, and broke my nose.

22. I really wish I still danced. I miss recitals and practice and the movement and stretching of my body. I really wish Iowa State's only dance company wasn't a super weird modern dance troupe.

23. I'm really flexible. I can do the super-splits (splits with back leg bent up to touch the top of your head), and I can pretty much fold my body in half backwards. As in, my head can almost touch my butt. Well, I used to be able to do these things. It's been a while since I tried.

24. I'm an obsessive checkbook-balancer. I can be caught doing it multiple times a day.

25. I am both excited and nervous for the direction my life is going. I wish I had done more, been more impulsive and reckless, but I'm also really proud of myself for what I've accomplished with my hard work. I'm mostly thankful that I have an awesome person I'll be sharing my life with, and the best family there to support me and share my experiences along the way.

That was kind of a sappy end, but it'll do.
